CURIOSITY:
The legalisation of cannabis in Europe could have not only a positive, but also a considerable impact in many respects. Taking stock of Benzinga is international cannabis expert Barbara Pastori. Here is an overview.
Cannabis legalisation: the panorama
On the American continent, the legalisation of cannabis is increasingly a reality: on the one hand the United States, which is moving towards federal unity from the licensing point of view, on the other Mexico, where judges have replaced politics by abolishing prohibition. In Europe, on the other hand, people remain on the sidelines, although things may soon change in the Old Continent too.
Last June, in fact, in Portugal the parties Bloco de Esquerda and Iniciativa Liberal presented a bill for the legalisation of cannabis among adults; both bills have been submitted to the Health Commission where they will remain for 60 days during which public hearings may be held and amendments and negotiations presented; only after this period will the decisive vote be taken in Parliament. The situation is different for Switzerland and the Netherlands, which have already started pilot projects that could lead to legalisation. To these are added the openings of Luxembourg, Spain, Germany and Malta.
