Its origins are lost in the mists of time. The term ‘Hashish’ derives from the Arabic ﺣﺸﻴﺶ ḥašīš and could be translated as ‘weed‘ in Italian. The history of hashish and its evolution is still rather obscure, but historians agree that it first appeared in Arabia from the 10th century onwards. In fact, the first historical documents attesting to the use of Hashish are dated to the 11th century. Even during that period, the use and utilisation of this Hashish, was the subject of lively debate among various Muslim lawmakers.
