Bong (acrylic bong): The bong is an item with a very ancient origin and initially it was just a section of a bambù cane, that in Thai language was called baung, hence the name. When you use the bong, it has to be filled with water and the weed you want to smoke, has to be grinded and then positioned in the specific bowl of the bong. Once you have positioned the weed, you can light it with a normal lighter or with matches , and at the same time, with your mouth leaning on top of your item, you have to inhale in the bong so bubbles containing smoke, already cooled down by the water, begin to come from the stem. 

CURIOUS FACT: Bong, from its origin to the present 

The bong has a so long-dated history that it is not possible to locate it temporally and also geographically. What we know for sure is that the name has Thai origin and it is related to the section of the bambù, baung in Thai, which was used to make the tool.
The geographical origin can be appointed to two different continents: Asia and Africa.  On one hand we have South-East Asia, where the name comes from, and also Russia, where during excavations, they found a water pipe, in solid gold and dated 2400 years ago. On the other hand we have Africa, where have found many ancient artifacts of bongs, mostly in Etiopia.

After having spread throughout the world, the bongs were adversely affected by all the laws regarding cannabis, which made cannabis consumption illegal, including all the tools and objects related to it. The production, even though it was really law, has never stopped, also thanks to the use of water pipes by tobacco consumers.

Design and materials
Over the centuries, the bong has evolved: many and peculiar shapes and the different materials used to produce it, from glass, ceramic to wood and many others.

Despite the ancient origin, the modern design that we all know about, is quite recent and it is dated back in the nineteen-sixties, when joints and bongs became part of the cultural revolutions and youth movements. At that time, the American glassmaker Bob Snodgrass produced new water pipes, usually enriched by psychedelic colours.

Thanks to him, today most of the bongs are made in glass, easier to clean and healthier. Or also they are made in silicone, which makes the item cheaper, but also less frail and delicate.
